In 2020, the Department of General Surgery of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital was evaluated and certified as a surgical trainee training base of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and trained strictly in accordance with the curriculum of The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. After passing the first stage of the assessment, physicians will acquire the Member of The Royal College of Surgeons, (MRCS), and by completing the second stage of training, they can meet the standards of Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons(FRCS). The introduction of the mature surgical training system and strict assessment system of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh will further enhance the comprehensive level and quality of resident surgeons in general surgery at Tsinghua.

Becoming a training accreditation base for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in China marks the formal alignment of the quality of resident training at Tsinghua University with international standards, which is a significant milestone in Tsinghua University's medical education.
