Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital selected the first batch of 6 surgeons to enter the joint training program of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong

  On the afternoon of April 22nd, the launch meeting of the joint training program for surgeons of the School of Clinical Medicine of Tsinghua University, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and College of Surgeons of Hong Kong was held in Shuangqing Building. Wang Xiqin, Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University; Dong Jiahong, Dean of the School of Clinical Medicine; Xu Huji, Executive Vice President of the School of Clinical Medicine; Michael Griffin, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; Lai Cheuck-seen Edward, Vice President of College of Surgeons of Hong Kong; Daniel Porter, chief coordinator of the project, and representatives of surgeons and graduate students from Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital and Beijing Huaxin Hospital attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Wang Jin, vice president of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital.

  In 2020, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital and Beijing Huaxin Hospital became the training bases for certified surgeons of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. In 2021, Tsinghua University selected the first batch of 9 outstanding young doctors for strict training with reference to the courses of College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. After passing the first part of the examination, doctors will be awarded the Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). Through the second stage of training, the standard of Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) can be achieved. The mature surgical training system and strict assessment system of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh will further improve the comprehensive level and quality of house physician in Tsinghua University.

  

Wang Xiqin 

  Wang Xiqin thanked the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong for their support and recognition on behalf of Tsinghua University. He hoped that the young doctors could uphold the school motto of "Self-improvement and Social Commitment" and the school spirit of "Actions speak louder than words", cherish the precious training opportunities, and grow into the backbone of promoting the internationalization of clinical medicine of Tsinghua University.

  

Michael Griffin

  Michael Griffin introduced the history of the development of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and its status in the international medical development. He spoke highly of the clinical teaching of the Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University and congratulated the Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University for obtaining the qualification of the training base of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

  

Lai Cheuck-seen Edward

  Lai Cheuck-seen Edward introduced the history of cooperation between College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and its significance to the training of surgeons in Hong Kong, and said that this cooperative training model is conducive to the training of outstanding doctors in China.

  

Dong Jiahong

  Dong Jiahong introduced the progress and achievements made by the School of Clinical Medicine in personnel training, discipline construction, teaching staff and internationalization construction. He said that becoming the accreditation base of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong marks that the training quality of house physicians of Tsinghua University is officially in line with the international level, which is an important milestone in the medical education of Tsinghua University.

  

Daniel Porter

  Daniel Porter gave a brief introduction to the training program of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and showed the supporting courses and training activities carried out by the School of Clinical Medicine for the implementation of the program.

  

Guests presented tutorials and gifts to the first group of participants

  Wang Xiqin, Dong Jiahong, Xu Huji, Wang Jin, Daniel Porter, Luo Bin, Wu Jianchen presented the training course and gifts to the first batch of 9 trainees from two affiliated hospitals of Tsinghua University, whose name are Chen Lin, Ji Wuyang, Liu Jiang, Yang Wei, Zhou Chengyao, Zhu Changzhen, Zhang Zhengjie, Xu Xiruo and Lu Zhenbang. Liu Jiang from Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital and Lv Zhenbang from Beijing Huaxin Hospital spoke as representatives of the first session of the students.(Translated by Yu Yuechao)
